December 29, 2015 • News • Samsung
Said to be released in January 2016 or early February, news about the S7 is making waves, making people speculate as to what specs, look and feel the new smartphone will possess. Read about some of the rumours about the new Galaxy S7 below:
Samsung Galaxy S7 Concept
Despite being a great Android phone, Samsung's Galaxy S5 never really made an impact with regards to having a premium feel of a flagship phone. But then, things changed with the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, where Samsung made significant effort to change the look and design in order to not end up like the S5. Sporting a Corning Gorilla Glass 4 in its front and back, the Galaxy S6 revamped Samsung's flailing design and was praised by many for the changes.
With news of the upcoming S7, a lot of people have been speculating about the look and feel of the phone, but it all boils down to one thing: most are aching to have an S7 that departs from the usual standard and blocky design. However, since Samsung has only just changed the entire flagship design for the Galaxy S6, it is also possible that there might not be any massive, eye-popping changes with the Galaxy S7.
Larger display and thinner glass-on magnesium body
Similar to the Galaxy S6, the S7 is rumoured to feature a magnesium alloy frame that is wrapped in glass covers, which, although not entirely new, is a step that gives assurance of a premium build and design that people expect on a flagship.
With regards to the display, some rumors point out a 5.2' Galaxy S7 with a flat display, while others say about having a 5.7" one with side-curved display. Although there are no clear speculation about S7's display, it should be noted that these display specs are larger than the S6's.
S7 OS and Power
With regards to the processor, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820, which is expected to launch later this year, will possibly be in the S7. On the contrary, some rumors also state that Samsung's next SoC, Exynos M1, will power the flagship, similar to how the company opted to put Exynos instead of Snapdragon for the S6 line. Whichever processor it might have, we're expecting to see a 4gb of RAM and not lower than that, since the S6 Edge+ already possess that amount of RAM in its specs.
The Galaxy S6 had the Lollipop version, so it is expected that the newer S7 will have the Marshmallow update.
Revamped camera and USB Type-C
According to the latest rumour, Samsung is in talks with Sony about putting the Z5's IMX300 camera sensor in the Galaxy S7. This might be possible, as the IMX300 sensor is able to deliver an impressive performance. It should be noted, however, that the IMX300 is a 25-megapixel sensor, which might actually mean that the S7 is going to have a far higher camera mp than the 16mp of the S6.
Along with rumors that smartphones of 2016 will be adopting the USB Type-C tech for faster file transfers, it is also most likely be in the Galaxy S7.
